Which might explain why Lake Wanaka hosts more great events than most, and why the big names keep coming back, like Challenge Wanaka, Warbirds Over Wanaka, Winter Games, the Festival of Colour, New Zealand Mountain Film Festival, Wanakafest Food and Wine, Contact Epic Bike race, the Upper Clutha A&P show, and the Wanaka Autumn Arts School. Lake Wanaka is an amazing place with all sorts of unique events throughout the year. Today was the beginning of another hopefully annual event where Classic Flights & Warbirds over Wanaka brought Santa and some of his helper Elves to Wanaka Airport. We were so lucky the jolly red fellow had time in his heavy schedule to stop in, only made possible by Classic Flights. They flew them into the airport in their Tigermoth and Wayco Aircraft while Rudolf and the Reindeer Team were on a compulsary meal and rest break. OSH is everywhere these days! – Hopefully the reindeer teams scheduled break will be close to us next year as well so we can see him here at Wanaka again and add this visit to the Wanaka Events Calendar.
We also have an amazing Sunday Craft Market on Pembroke Park (opposite the Lake Front) during the summer months and a fantastic Farmers Market on Thursdays and Sundays during the Summer, moving in-doors for the winter months. This is the perfect place to access home grown produce such as microgreens, Cardrona Merino Lamb, home ground organic grained breads, pickles, chestnuts and hazelnuts, organic eggs and numerous other wonderful fare. If you are in to wholesome clean food options then this is a great place to source some produce for the table. The Craft Marketing has everything from Pottery and Carved Pounamu and Bone Jewellery pieces to wall art, clothing and quirky origional gift ideas.
